The Whitley Law Firm takes pride in helping the community and works to provide opportunities for individuals to further their education. Recently we learned about the Project of Equitable Access in Remote Learning (P.E.A.R.L.) and our team decided to get involved.

P.E.A.R.L.’s mission is to help mitigate the equity in education gap that has been intensified by COVID-19. In southeast Raleigh, NC, more schools are moving towards online education. Kate Deiter-Maradei, the founder of P.E.A.R.L., noticed that some families are hiring private instructors to help guide their children through virtual learning to make sure they get the best educational experience during this change.

The goal of P.E.A.R.L. is to provide all students with equal opportunities. The program will provide high school students, in groups of three and four, a college or graduate student as a mentor. And that mentor, in turn, will be instructed by a retired teacher. This program will give classroom teachers extra sets of eyes to help educate their students and provide them with additional resources to help with any questions or needs. This is all in hopes that no student will fall behind in a virtual setting.

P.E.A.R.L. is expected to launch this fall in Raleigh and hopes to expand in North Carolina in the spring semester. Our team at Whitley Law Firm is doing our best to help get this program started, but P.E.A.R.L. is still in need of local support. By donating to this program, you will help pay for instructors, conduct background checks, and support local families struggling with changes in their children’s education.
