Raleigh Low Testosterone Lawyer
A new study shows that taking testosterone therapy in products doubles the risk of heart attack among men over the age of 65, and nearly triples the risk in younger men who have a history of heart disease.
According to an article published in Forbes, the risk doubled during the first three months after beginning therapy in men younger than 65-years-old who had a history of heart disease. The study also found that the risk doubled in all men over the age of 65, whether they had heart disease or not, according to a study published in PLOS One.
At Whitley Law Firm, our Raleigh low testosterone lawyers are currently looking into Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) claims on behalf of those who have been injured by TRT products such as AndroGel® and others.

Research on Low Testosterone Therapy
The most recent and alarming study about TRT products was authored by a team from the National Cancer Institute, Los Angeles-based Consolidated Research Inc., and UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health. This research marks the third time in four years that a well-conducted study had detected signs that testosterone supplementation from products advertised to treat “low T” such as Androgel may carry serious risks for many men, such as heart attack, stroke, and death.
Another study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association stated that the annual prescriptions for testosterone products had rose more than five-fold between 2000 and 2011, reaching 5.3 million prescriptions, totaling $2 billion in sales in 2012, according to IMS Health, a research firm.
Risks Associated with Testosterone Therapy
Earlier this year, the US Food and Drug Administration released a safety announcement addressing the potential risks associated with FDA-approved testosterone products. According to the agency, it has not yet been concluded that testosterone treatment increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, or death in men, but the FDA does plan on monitoring the risk and reassessing this safety issue. In fact, their safety warning was prompted by two different studies that have linked testosterone products to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
The first study, which was published in the Journal or the American Medical Association, concluded that men over the age of 60 have a 30% increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and death when undergoing testosterone therapy (via topical gel (Androgel), transdermal patch, buccal system, or injection). The second study found that the risk of heart attack was increased three-fold in the first 90 days among younger men with a pre-existing history of heart disease. For this reason, you should not hesitate to contact our firm if you have suffered unintended side-effects.
