Wilson Side-Impact Car Accident Lawyer

Side-impact car crashes, also known as T-bone collisions, happen when the front end of one motor vehicle impacts the side of another vehicle. These accidents often occur at intersections or other areas where two lines of traffic meet. If you have been the victim of another motorist’s negligence in a side-impact wreck, a Wilson side-impact car accident lawyer may be able to help you pursue a claim for damages.

A personal injury attorney could help determine if you may be entitled to compensation for injuries, property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and more. To find out more about your eligibility for compensation, schedule a free consultation today.

Common Side-Impact Car Crash Injuries

Tragically, side-impact crashes are among the deadliest types of accidents, since there is very little protection for the driver or their passengers when a car is struck from the side. Common injuries from side-impact car wrecks could include facial injuries, broken bones, head trauma, concussions, brain injuries, neck injuries, back injuries, cuts, and lacerations. In some cases, the victim’s injuries may be so severe that they prove fatal.

The Whitley Advantage isn’t just one thing – it’s everything.

Potential Causes of Side-Impact Accidents

Side-impact car crashes commonly take place at intersections. When a negligent motorist fails to adhere to traffic signals and signs, they may be more likely to collide with vehicles already in an intersection. Other frequent causes of side-impact collisions include:

  • Speeding
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driver fatigue
  • Texting and driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Driver inexperience
  • Poor weather conditions

Wilson Traffic Laws

When a side-impact accident occurs, it is often the result of one vehicle attempting to pass another. Since this can be so dangerous, North Carolina law outlines several traffic laws dictating how to pass other vehicles. If vehicles are traveling in the same direction, motorists must adhere to the following when passing another vehicle:

  • Have a clear view of oncoming traffic before passing another motor vehicle (North Carolina General Statutes §20-150)
  • The driver should allow a minimum of two feet between their vehicle and the vehicle they are passing ( C. Gen. Stat. §20-149)
  • Pass on the left

Passing a vehicle on the right side is generally prohibited by state law unless both vehicles are on a one-way street, the other vehicle is in a left-hand turn lane, or other specific scenario. Under N.C. Gen. Stat. §20-148, if a vehicle is passed on the right-hand side, the passing vehicle must give the other vehicle sufficient space, ideally at least half of their primary line of travel.

Time Limits to File a Case

N.C. Gen. Stat. §1-52 says that a personal injury lawsuit for damages must be filed within three years from the date of the accident. This means that if a person is injured in a Wilson side-impact vehicle crash, or had their vehicle damaged, they must file their lawsuit no more than three years out from the collision.

When a victim tries to file their car accident lawsuit after the statutory clock has run out, the court may refuse to hear their case. If the statutory filing deadline is close, it may be time to speak with a Wilson side-impact car accident lawyer.

We are committed to the highest quality client service and one-on-one attention.
