On April 21, team members at our Kinston office rolled up their sleeves and got dirty volunteering for the Lenoir County SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). We helped to feed and walk the animals, as well as helped out with cleaning. The Lenoir County SPCA is one of the few animal shelters in North Carolina run by a non-profit instead of local animal control. The organization is solely supported by the community, not the ASPCA, and relies on volunteers to help with the 130+ animals they are caring for at any given time.

Two groups from the Whitley Law Firm went to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to volunteer at the community garden. On April 21 and April 27, members of our team helped with weeding, mulching, pruning, composting, and other activities to spruce up the garden that serves the community of Raleigh.

2020 was an interesting year that presented many challenges for people across the globe. One of these challenges was the COVID-19 pandemic. To help students that were impacted by this pandemic, we are offering the 2021 Overcoming Obstacles Scholarship. Students will be asked to share how the pandemic affected them and how they overcame any new challenges they faced due to the pandemic. Our firm is proud to support Kids’ Chance of North Carolina. This important organization works to provide scholarships to children of North Carolina workers who have been seriously injured in a work-related accident. These scholarships help alieve some of the financial burdens on students whose parents may no longer be able to work to help put them through college.

It’s estimated that about 5.8 million Americans 65 years and older are living with Alzheimer’s. This year we have partnered with Wake Memory Care and purchased their facility four Amazon Echo Show devices to be delivered to the residents. These devices will help keep residents connected with loved ones during this time of isolation.

We are proud to participate in and sponsor Michael Bissette in his bike ride across North Carolina in the Blue Ridge to the Beach ride. This event will help raise awareness and funds to end food insecurity caused by COVID-19. All donations will go towards Feeding the Carolinas to support our local communities. We were proud once again helping the Friends of Wake County Animal Center by sponsoring their Spay and Neuter Days. On August 10th the FWCAC provided spay and neuter services to animals at the Capital Boulevard Animal Hospital & Pet Inn to help diminish uncontrolled breeding in Wake County. These masks were available to those who needed masks, could not afford them or wanted them for family, friends, and coworkers. Interact of Wake County is the only provider of domestic violence and sexual assault services in Wake County, North Carolina. Domestic violence and sexual assault survivors are often left with nothing when they leave an abusive home. In an effort to brighten the holidays for families starting over, InterAct hosts an annual Holiday Bazaar in which their agency is transformed into a store where parents can “shop” to choose toys and gifts for their children — and children can choose gifts for their parents too!

InterAct is collecting gifts until 5pm TODAY at 1012 Oberlin Road. They are most in need of gifts for boys and girls ages 6-12 and teenagers.

With spring quickly approaching, Whitley Law Firm is preparing to sponsor a number of community events. We are proud to be sponsoring the 2015 Walk / Run / Bike for Umstead event, held on Saturday, April 18. Registration is now open for this event which will involve a day on Park Trials with guided bike rides and activities for children. The event is held to raise funds for the restoration of the cabins and halls, as well as to provide environmental education regarding the state park. We entered the2015 Graphis Advertising Annual competition with our billboard design that highlighted the dangers of texting while driving. Our design was the only one selected from North Carolina and was one of less than 300 selected from competitors across the country. We are proud to announce that our billboard design was selected as the winner of the competition! Our goal during the design stage was to capture the public’s attention and help encourage wiser driving.

During the week of April 12 ^th, 2015, the Whitley Law Firm sponsored a food drive to support a local food pantry. The firm adopted this week during the Urban Ministries of Wake County’s 52-Week Food Drive to provide healthy groceries to families in need. The Raleigh office raised 382 pounds of food for the pantry to help feed Wake County families in need.

The firm also toured the Urban Ministries facility, where they had the opportunity to learn about the additional services that the organization provides. During the tour, the firm stocked the shelves with the food that they raised during their food drive. Team members at the Raleigh office were humbled and proud to help support the food pantry by raising 382 pounds of healthy food items.

In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, Whitley Law Firm donated $5,000 to Wake County Animal Center. Our donation will help the animal shelter partially cover adoption fees for families looking

to adopt a pet this December. If you would like to adopt an animal it is $25 for dogs (normally $95) and $10 for cats (normally $45) this month. Hopefully, these deserving animals will find a forever home this holiday. Our attorneys are so happy to help local families looking to adopt and the animals themselves move out of the shelter and into their new home!

The Whitley Law Firm received the opportunity during the holiday season of 2014 to give back to the community by partnering with Urban Ministries to feed those in need. Through our “click” drive, we committed to donating $1 to Urban Ministries of Wake County for each new “like” we received on our Facebook page. With the efforts of this organization, each dollar was able to provide food for one hungry individual in the county for the entire day. The efforts of this organization are useful in providing both food and healthcare to those in need throughout Wake County.

For the past two years, the Whitley Law Firm has been a part of feeding the hungry by being a host law firm for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Annual Food Drive. As a host of the food drive, we have collected non-perishable food items which we then donate to local food banks throughout Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina.

Every year, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice come together to help fight against poverty all throughout North Carolina. The food drive ran from November 10 to November 25 this year. During that time, the Whitley Law Firm was a key figure in collecting food items at their Kinston, Raleigh, and New Bern offices. Combined, our offices were able to donate 90 lbs of food to various food shelters in North Carolina.
