The team at Whitley Law Firm is proud to sponsor and participate in the Blue Ridge to the Beach bike ride to help fight food insecurity and support Feeding the Carolinas. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity affected 1 in 9 Americans; however, now with the pandemic’s additional financial pressures about 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 4 children are facing hunger and limited access to food in the Carolinas.

Food insecurity has many misconceptions and can affect anyone at any time due to emergencies, large unforeseen expenses, or layoffs. With COVID-19 causing changes to many people’s daily life and finances, one “bad month” can cause a family to become even more vulnerable to food insecurity. Many families do not qualify for governmental food assistance but need extra help feeding their families. That’s why organizations like Feeding the Carolinas are so important. Together, food banks feed an additional 40 million people in the US who need support. All donations collected from the Blue Ridge to the Beach ride will go directly to supporting local, North Carolina food banks and hunger relief programs to help people who are in dire need of food.

We are particularly excited about this event because our attorney Matthew Bissette’s brother, Michael Bissette, will be biking his longest journey across North Carolina to support Feeding the Carolinas. We are proud to sponsor and join him along the way during various stretches of his journey.

This event is taking place from September 1 through March 1st, so you still have time to join. Our team will be biking on October 10th through the 11th. All of the proceeds are directly donated to Feeding the Carolinas in efforts to help end hunger in our local community. If you wish to help us in supporting this event or Feeding the Carolinas, please make a donation on the Blue Ridge to the Beach website.

If you would like to join the ride for any stretch please see the map below. An interactive version can be found here. There are highlighted sections in the map that are recommended places for others to join and ride along. Follow Michael Bissette on Instagram to see where he is and when he is expected to be where.
